"I have always admired the Border Collie and knew that would be the perfect dog for our family when the time was right. The time finally came and after a lot of research, the only sensible option was adoption through a rescue operation. WBCR came up through an internet search and I was so impressed by the website and very excited at all the possibilities. I e-mailed Tonya and within an hour had a response. Within a two week period we had been approved and I decided to drive to Wyoming to look at three wonderful prospects. I was looking for a dog that we could work with on agility, but would also like to use her for a therapy dog and occasionally use her to load our 4-H sheep into the trailer.
Mesa walked into the room and through her beautiful eyes I knew she was it! What a gorgeous animal! I thought "This is a perfect therapy dog!" She is the sweetest, most affectionate dog and the bond was very immediate! My little velcro buddy has quickly fit in with our family. She is very obedient and is just happy to be doing whatever we are doing. We love hearing her funny little noises too. She is a little submissive, but each day, the BC tendencies are slowly coming out. The sheep are something a little frightening to her yet, so at least we don't have to worry that she will be staring at them all day. We have two male labs, one who is 14+. She seems to know that he is old and fragile and has a lot of respect for him. Sometimes I find her just laying near him providing companionship. Our other lab has readily accepted her as if she has always been a part of the family. Typical of the breed, she is one smart cookie! A set of bells were put on the doorknob where we take her out. I worked with her on touching them with her nose each time we went outside. By the third day at our house she had it all figured out and now lets me know when she needs to go outside. Smart girl!
In a few weeks we will begin some agility training and I am sure she will do very well. We will then gradually work into therapy training and someday she will be bringing joy to not just our family, but many others!
I am very thankful that there are folks like Tonya and all the foster families with WBCR! They put a lot of time and effort into these wonderful animals so they can go to forever homes. Thanks for bringing us Mesa!"
