"My husband had always grown up with dogs; I was won over after dog-sitting for my good friend. I wanted someone to go running with in the mornings and Matt wanted someone to cuddle and play with. After much research into breeds, we wanted a dog a little less spacey than a lab, but that still had a friendly, easygoing nature.
At first, we tried out a dog from our local shelter. The unfortunate thing about shelter-dogs is that you have no clue as to their personality. There are a lot of staff who see the dogs day in & day out, but don't get to spend much time with them. Little did we know that he had severe separation anxiety and kennel cough; a combination that left us with no choice but to take him back.
I was feeling pretty blue about this experience, but then I saw Murphee on Petfinder.com. She looked so easygoing - a nice happy dog. We inquired with Tonya, who answered all of our questions and reassured us as to Murphee's sweet nature. I was worried about BC's attitudes towards cats, but Murphee was an exception. So, we drove the 4 hours to see her, and she was just as sweet as advertised!
Now we couldn't be happier. Murphee has come a long way in three short months. We strengthened her potty training, taught her to Heel, Bed, Rollover, Shake, Sit, Stay, Stop, Come, Find, and Jump! She can jump 6 feet! She's pointed out coyotes and mountain lions to me on our morning runs, and even likes to run next to the bike! After a long bike ride, she loves to sleep on a little pillow in the sun. She's always up for whatever we want to do - whether it's hide and seek with her frog toy or with each of us, her tail is wagging and a smile is on her face. We have a great time hiking with friends and their dogs on the weekends. All in all, she's everything we wanted in a dog. We're so thankful to have her!"
