Success Stories

"Maisey" -- adopted July 2006

"Maisey formerly known as "Smiley" came to me after a call from WBCR. I'd fostered a few dogs for WBCR in the past and they said they had a dog that would be a good foster candidate for me but she was a dog that would need quite a bit of rehab.

Maisey came from a neglectful situation where she was tied out 24/ 7 and was seriously underfed. Before that she came from a couple where the man physically abused her. That's a lot for a dog that is just barely two years old!

When another volunteer drove her to Jackson, she got out of the kennel and would barely walk around. I managed to get her into my backseat and she smelled awful! After her spay there wasn't time to get her bathed. (She continues to have the nickname "Stinky".)

My two dogs received her well and she hid under the table on the dog bed in my kitchen for the first 24 hours. Slowly but surely she started to come out of her shell, although she was terrified of men. A week and a half after Maisey came to stay with me my older dog died. It was devastating and I was glad for my other BC, Wyatt, that he had a companion in Maisey. I didn't plan on keeping her but as time went on and she bonded with me and with Wyatt it became more and more clear that she was becoming part of the family. She even started to run up to men! That came with the help of my patient brother who taught her that men can be nice.

Now, almost 7 months after getting Maisey she is a different dog. She has learned to play with toys, loves other dogs and really likes children. She is a herding fiend who won't herd people but will herd ANY other animal that moves. I'm working with her on that and we try to channel that energy into other activites. Maisey and Wyatt play for hours and really enjoy each others company. It goes to show that a little love goes a LONG way and that even abused dogs can make miraculous comebacks!

Thank you WBCR!"
