"We adopted our Allie (aka "Allie Oop") from WBCR in October 2005. We had recently lost our beloved family dog (a German Shepard/Rough Collie mix) to cancer and desperately needed another dog to help fill the hole in our hearts.
We did quite a bit of research and decided we wanted a Border Collie (we love to go to the Soldier Hollow Sheep Dog Trials and were so impressed with this smart, high energy and attractive breed of dog). We decided to adopt through a rescue because that way we could give a rescued dog a permanent home and also be matched up with one that would best suit our family's lifestyle.
Because we live a fair distance away from WBCR, we did all of the initial groundwork via the internet and telephone. Tonya was a terrific help in getting us through the process. We had fallen in love with the picture/bio of a cute little Aussie/BC mix pup and decided he was the dog for us! However, after several telephone conversations and an exchange of e-mails, Tonya indicated that she had another dog that would probably be a better match for our family. She e?mailed us pictures of Allie and described her temperament to us. At that point, we decided it was time to actually meet the dogs. It was love at first sight!!
Life with a Border Collie isn't always easy and they are definitely not the right breed for everyone, but we wouldn't trade her for any other kind of dog. In fact, we may adopt another Border Collie sometime soon, we like them so much.
Allie, at almost a year old, is very fast and agile. She is a Frisbee fool and shows great aptitude for both flyball and agility dog sports. Once she has completed the advanced level of obedience training, we will start beginning agility classes with her. We are looking forward to taking a lot of camping and hiking trips this summer, too.
Thank you Wyoming Border Collie Rescue for helping find such a great dog to join our family."
